Miss Amber Rose.

8.30.2009

ok. heres the thing. i never really "lived" for miss amber rose. i still dont. although i think she is l-vely and her style is KILLING the game, i cant pretend im following her every move. but what i am a fan of, is her drive to step out of an industry that has the ability to not only kill your rep, but make it extremely difficult to return to what most of you think is "normality", and manage to not give a fuck about the negativity and look good while doing it.

since amber has been dating kanye she has been, for the most part, everywhere he is, paps following her, uber exposure, and the fact that she is uniquely beautiful DOES seem to help.

we all know she is an EX stripper. and unfortunately for her, and some of the rest of us, the MEDIA will never let her forget this. no matter what is going on in kanye or amber's world-blogs and new mags everywhere will continue to keep the words "video model" and/or "stripper" scattered amongst the article.

i dont think it would matter as much if they were speaking of advancement, or achievement by her, but its usually in the context of something degrading, or taboo, something the media obviously will never neglect to report.

ok-so we know she was in the strip industry, we also know she did videos, and we also know she is not hiding it. so why do we continue to attempt pulling cards that are already out on the table? instead of just a simple "congratulations" in regard to her signing with FORD models, instead its "so i guess you have to be a stripper turned video model, to make it now-a-days." oh come on, you cant be serious, negative nancy! how can you only site an obvious negative(by social standards) and not let someone shine, or at the very least, give kudos for getting out of an industry that has such an awful stigma?

i find it almost criminal that people are side eyeing her success just because of her past, which she has POSITIVELY came out of. she is in a relationship with a man who l-ves her, appreciates her, and clearly is non judgemental (which is something all us women ask for) and she is no longer a part of the strip industry, and has signed to a very reputable modeling agency. so she has turned what many consider being a negative, STRIP, into a positive life turn around. do we have to taint it with cynicism and spite? so your mad? your mad that a part of her success is based off her beauty and not a college degree? or are your more concerned about the message that it sends, that being a stripper can lead to you having a rapper boyfriend and a ford contract..? ok, amber rose's story is not at all typical, for if it was, all us ladies in this industry would be on the arms of some great non judgemental man, chasing our dreams with him backing us 100%. but unfortunately, it is not that simple, we are not all THAT lucky. so no need to think this can or will happen to every video girl and/or exotic dancer. you can rest easy.

if amber has managed to find someone who gives a fuck about her enough to help her get where she wants and needs to be, who are we to try and rain on their pink parade? strippers deserve to be happy too. we deserve chances to better ourselves and grow. and the moment any of us try to do that, people want us to shut up, stay in our place, and just 2 step nude. and of course-these are the same folks that cant stop saying "you cant strip your whole life". hmm..whats a bitch to do? damned if you do, damned if you dont. (missjia.com)

bravo, miss rose.

*claps her fucking hands and throws confetti*

See, Brook, THIS is the reason I started reading your blog. In addition to me just loving your writing style (translate: you're able to keep my attention), you make perfect sense. You basically stomp out the stereotype that strippers are only good enough to shake it but should leave the rest to the girls who aren't. You threw water on that flame of haters and I applaud you for that.

As for Miss Rose, I'm going to sound biased (obviously) b/c I do stan hard for her. I stan hard for her b/c she does have a nice body and a beautiful face...but I also stan hard for her b/c (unlike, say...Karrine), she doesn't seem to be back tracking. You know I don't have a problem with the industry (at least not the dancing side)...but it kills me (softly) when I hear a girl say that she wants to change, has the opportunity to change, but doesnt grab a hold of those horns to MAKE the change. Amber has literally been HANDED an opportunity that many of us (be it that we're strippers or NOT) do NOT get the opportunity to have. She's been offered a lifestyle where she can take off her clothes if she CHOOSES but she no longer has to do that. Why won't people just let the girl have that? What's wrong with Kanye being with her and pulling her out of something and putting her on to something new? I think it has more to do with the fact that she's 'not black' than anything else but if this had been Juicy that works on weekends at Blue Flame, they'd throw fire at that girl too...b/c now...she's just a black stripper and he STILL could've gotten with somebody better.

Why do people feel Kanye 'deserves' a woman with a degree? That nigga doesn't have a damn degree! WTF? That's like a chick saying that she ONLY dates dudes that drives Benz but she has a damn Kia. Please...

Amber is a 'damned if you do, damned if you don't' chick. No matter how hard she strives and no matter what she accomplishes (be it through Kanye's push/connections or not), she'll always be that stripper slut who 'doesn't deserve' to have better...but if something went down where the two of them broke up and she went back to the club, people would beat her over the head for 'doing that again.'

So as you asked....what IS a bitch to do?

Brook you fucking rock!

Young woman on a journey August 31, 2009 7:50 AM

very well said. I think her attitude of accepting her past and not letting it define her or her future is one of her most attractive qualities. she's a beautiful woman and i'm glad that she was not only able to get out of the industry but that she's paving a bright fuuture ahead for herself. I mean, that's what we all ask for right? a bright future. whether we have degrees or not and whether we worked in industries shunned by society or not. Kudos to her for not letting her past or others determine her limitations. its just funny how easy it is for people to cast judgment rather than be supportive or positive transformations.

Pink August 31, 2009 9:16 AM

ppl are haters . . . they caant let a person shine . . . . I agree its TOTAL violation when ppl focus on the BAD and think they can pull cards but Amber is teaching us ALL a life lesson and she is rockin on wit negativity and all

no one even thinks abt other ELITE models who had a rough life . . . wsnt Giselle Buchen a brasilian prostitute? or something like that no one points the finger at her like so

No one has a perfect life even after they erupt into SUCCESS

Assertive Wit August 31, 2009 9:26 AM

I was reading an article in some magazine and saw that she was a FORD model. I thought I had read wrong but good for her. Being that she came from an industry that has a million and five negative stigmas attached to it, it would seem a GOOD thing that she is now gainfully employed doing something that the majority considers "respectable" employment.

Unfortunately, someone is ALWAYS going to complain. She could be taking her entire check and feeding the impoverished in Africa and that STILL wouldn't be good enough, although most of the people casting judgment usually aren't doing anything better that is worth mentioning in the first place.

Some folks REALLY need to just STFU and stop using valuable oxygen with all their damn complaining about people they don't even know.

TaMina August 31, 2009 2:13 PM

good post & point brooky
Amber does no wrong for me
i say that b/c her situation is
by luck but also an organic
situation w/ Ye- its obvious
that they are down for 1 another
he supports her & theres nothing
wrong w/ that. B/c of where she comes
from the nay-sayers cant get over
it w/ her IT GIRL appeal so the hate
comes in the form of yet her praises
in the blogsphere/media. She gets
the last laugh b/c this is a platform
to further her success & thats wat
folks r doing hating to love her ~~

Love this blog....definitely going to the rafters on my blogroll....the sad thing is that people will pigeonhole a woman who has chosen to be an exotic dancer/video vixen/whatever else society thinks is unsavory, but she has inked a MAJOR modeling deal, so people should just kick rocks because no matter how much they spew negativity, she is going to do her numbers. The crab in the barrel theory is sooooooo true on all levels. I would love to see some of the skeletons inside of these "upstanding/perfect/never did anything wrong" peoples closets and then we could talk. Again, dope blog.

Yves August 31, 2009 3:22 PM

She's definitely making moves, I'm feeling her right now too

Reggie August 31, 2009 4:01 PM

Wait....I live for Miss Amber Rose....She is too much...Bi sexual, stripper, model, style icon, sex whore....get you a piece!

But I lived for this post! It was everything I say about Amber! Get it Brook-Lyn!

Anonymous August 31, 2009 4:11 PM

oh lawd, here she go again...you cant write about anything besides stripping.

[$ H A R O N A] August 31, 2009 4:39 PM

yup. i give her props. and i mentioned the "stank walk" lmao its on the blog. ;)

Bang Bang August 31, 2009 7:35 PM

LOL I totally agree, Whats wrong with using the assets GOD gave you. Obviously she's not just a pretty face because you need a good mind to deal with Hollywood and to actually get where she is. I just find it amazing that people who belittle her are the first ones to know whats going on in her life before she even thinks bout it.

If you're pretty you should use it.

If you're smart you should use it.

If you are a great artist then use it.

I don't understand when people use the few good cards that are dealt to them, Other people get mad yet they're the ones with the whole deck and didn't do shit and they just mad cause you had 10 and made it work waaaaayyyyy better.

Everything is not black or white and right or wrong.

Anonymous August 31, 2009 9:57 PM

Great post..but that is life my dear..I believe Amber can take the hate, thats what comes with such a "sweet come -up" I mean come on...Its a given!! She has to be hated on..shoot I bet you're secretly jealous too and wish you had such an awesome come-up..Its a simple human emotion and its allowed..I mean damn! Look at her! I almost dare you to NOT hate lol even for a milisecond!! .I'm sure know that. All in all you're getting your comeup too with your whole angle (the smart stripper) I mean we all know there's a lot of smart sexy beautifully complex girls who strip..It is what it is..Be thankful its such a stigma still to the masses of unenlightened people cos its keeping you relevant and your point of view refreshing..Lot of people, yes black people included, been up on this stuff (your way of thinking) for a minute, and never hated on anyone for like dumb reasons, instead of just stating why it is they are really mad.... You are interesting though so keep up what you do, just please don't ever become predictable and honey welcome the haters..It simply means you have arrived!!! Later pretty woman ;-)

To Anonymous:

You're obviously a newbie. Have you read:

Are we still doing this?

Pick your poison?

How to steal a guy?

Social Anxiety?

And when he gets on....?

I could go on and on.

Obviously you haven't bothered to click on that dandy little "older post" option down bottom b/c if you had, you'd see that Brook has touched on quite a few other topics that have absolutely shit to do with stripping. If you are that opposed to her talking about the club, how about you sign in under your regular name/handle and offer up some topics so she can prove you wrong again....

Anonymous comments irk my nerve.

Anonymous September 1, 2009 2:14 PM

@ Anonymous #1 it's so funny that you are obviously tired of reading/hearing about strip but yet you keep coming back for more. If you don't like what she has to say then why read it? If you are an actual follower of Brook's blog the you'd know that this is not the only subject that can be found here. I don't always agree with everything that she has to say that doesn't make me right and her wrong it's just a different point of view.

Anonymous September 1, 2009 5:45 PM

Wow, I'm talking too myself @ Anonymous number two...sorry guys I'm schizo

Qu33n Kam... September 1, 2009 7:09 PM

I agree w/ u fully!! Amber Roses beauty is a gift from God!! Lolz she is gorgeous & shows it in a different way by being a trendsetter becuz she is by far someone who turns heads by not looking average. She is an exception to the rule not every stripper gets out that easy...but life after strip i guess just depends on the woman cuz personally i dont know for sure what strippers crave beyond stripping but i do know no lil girl wakes up and says she wants to be a stripper when she grows up,, at least in my opinion. I always seen strippers using stripping as a temporary profession to stack their chips for a better life and for the fact there are ones who stay doing it and never reach there goals she making it out is a positive thing. And how are we being positive if we hold ppls past over their heads, we all arent perfect.

Bombchell September 1, 2009 10:21 PM

people will always hate, & they'll always try to bring you down if your up. I really hope she's not paying them any mind. if it's not ex stripper, it'll be ex druggie, or ex hoe, ex groupie, gold digger or theyll make something up, they dont care.

the haters are just louder

Lyrik Marie x3 September 2, 2009 12:40 AM

Upon being beautiful - she is modest. I've listened to a few of her radio interviews and she is very modest. Amber is indeed lucky to have found someone like Kanye who appreciates her wholesomely. But none the less the media and tabloids will do what they do best, turn a positive into a negative. I actually think Amber should speak up. I'm so use to seeing her in the cut - by Kanye's side, very quiet. I think she should voice herself. It would allow for an even larger oppurtunity for her to progress as a human - not just an ex stripper ..

Another good post Brooky !!

-Love your lil sis Lyrik =]

TROPHYWiFE September 2, 2009 8:23 AM

okay so,
SWARE TO GOD that I am ashamed to say i haven't really been reading your blog like i used to, but i click here this morning at 8:15am to see that we both had Ms.Rose on our minds. SP and I were talking about her like thursday how it really changes mens minds about wifing a stripper. but then i said "well mos defs wife is a stripper" and he says "that niggas weiard anyways".-blank stare- because its just the same to me as working at burger king or bebe, you still get money, with a lil flash of skin (lol) its a JOB.

my whole thing is, no ones job/career/activities defines who they are as a person and what is on the inside and where their heart is. to me, stripping is not a bad thing. hell i may as well strip i do topeless modeling. i myself congradulate Amber Rose because it gives us glamour models/dancers/strippers something to look forward too and i also believe it will open more doors for us as well.

Anonymous September 3, 2009 2:23 AM

agreeing with anonymous number one. very, so very, true. she cannot talk about anything besides strip. shes brainwashed. thats all she know (or so it seems). so she tries to make every little thing, some how, some way make strip seem like its 'okay'. because thats how she manipulates herself.

the moral of the story is... i will forever be known as the ignorant person who chose to remain anonymous. and brooky dear, you will always remain that stripper chic, no matter how far, or what sp saves you from the pole. it is what it is. we all have choices in life. and unfortunately, this is the route you chose. and its cool, because if i were chose STRIP as my lifestyle, i'd somehow make it seem OK to.

and it seems like youre in route of making it out.. so you need this to fall back on.. or somehow make it ok.. lol its cute to me. but whatever, carry on darling.

strip IS cool. lets tell our kids to follow our footsteps.

brook lynne carter. September 3, 2009 2:41 AM

anonymous #2..

sp will not be the one to save me. i will save myself. and im sure it makes you and the rest of the peanut gallery sick to see a STRIPPER try to do anything but dance. no worries, i wont let anyone forget im a stripper. im also a pisces, nocturnal, right handed and non-denominational, i hope those things make you sick too.

oh, i l-ve how i have control of my blog-control to approve or not approve comments. its almost like..your talking to yourself, anonymous. good night!

Miss Lawrence September 3, 2009 9:04 AM

Miss Rose says she's been hated on most her life, so it doesn't bother her. She obviously is no Tameka Raymond, she's quite comfortable in her sexually and with her past.

I JUST read a article similar to this written by Russell Simmons on Global Grind, also defending Miss Rose and her past. I was alittle taken back, that people feel so strongly to protect the integrity of a woman who obviously has no issues with who she is. She hasn't changed up one bit, hasn't thrown on a weave, hasn't covered up, still wears leggins like they are going out of style...she is doing her. Kanye 'Pretty Woman-ed' her, and I aint mad at it. Everyone has a past, and if our entire future was based on it, ALOT of us would be fucked up in this game called life. It's hilarious that everyone has done things they aren't proud of, yet choose to forget THEIR experiences when others are judged. hehehaha, human nature.

@ Miss Jia...why do u stan her? Is it envy? Or just physical attraction? She is a beautiful woman dont get me wrong, but I never got why people 'stan' others when all they know or see is exterior? I never saw the logic in that..maybe b/c i'm surrounded by some of the prettiest women on a daily basis, and see that pretty people can do the ugliest things..

@ anonymous I get where your coming from, but I dont think Miss Brook glorifies stripping. She glorifies the money & attention, but never have I read her say this job completes her. And you know, anyone can hand you a opportunity, but it's on the person to make it happen. With that said you so messy for bringing up her SP.

@trophywife Im sorry but I just had to say this b/c I sometimes read your blogs as well. How do you copy Brook's hair & copy her acroymns? You my child, may need to find yourself. And this aint no sass, im just speaking on what I see.

@Brook Bravo.

Jahayra September 3, 2009 1:32 PM

Love Amber-although her past is was shady, she turned herself around! Shes fucking beautiful has got an amazing body and is not letting the negativity from others get her down, shes moving forward and making her mark! *applauds* And Brooke, I will say it again love your blog and your style of writting! You have kept my attention (which is hard to do)! Love it girl, keep doign your thing and thank your haters for giving you more motivation!

Jahayra September 3, 2009 1:37 PM

ok maybe I am not up on the language but what is SP?

brook lynne carter. September 3, 2009 2:28 PM

jahayra,

sp stands for silent partner.

brook lynne carter. September 3, 2009 2:30 PM

miss lawrence,

i l-ve what you said about questioning why ppl protect someone who is ok with her past. you opened my mind to a different perspective.

Jia September 7, 2009 3:20 PM

@Miss Lawrence: Envy? That word is not in my vocab. I have no reason to be jealous of anyone's life or life situations...or physical appeal. I just think that she's a beautiful woman who exudes confidence. In a world where so many women spend sooo much time tearing down this female or that one for one reason or another, it's great to see her rise above that and tell folks to 'fuck off' as she continues doing her. Yes, I do find her physically appealing but her confidence is what makes me a 'stan.'
