Jermaine Dupri on Strip.
8.26.2009
recently, JD, posted a question and answer post on his blog, Global14.com. he dove into the always debatable subject of STRIP. and of course, he asked the questions that have been and will always be asked about women in the strip industry.
"TODAY’S TOPIC IS ONE THAT ALWAYS SEEMS TO MAKE FOR A LONG CONVERSATION. STRIPPERS!!! THE MOST WANTED TO BE AND BE WITH BUT AT THE SAME TIME THE MOST HATED. I’VE NEVER UNDERSTOOD THE HATING PART BECAUSE FIRST ITS A OCCUPATION BEFORE ANYTHING ELSE. A DIFFERENT TYPE OF JOB BUT A JOB THAT PAYS BETTER THAN MOST 9 TO 5s. I’M ALWAYS HEARING OTHER WOMEN SAY ITS DEGRADING AND ALL THIS BUT SOON AS YOU TURN THE MUSIC ON THEM SAME GIRLS ARE DOING WHAT WOULD BE SEEN IN THE CLUB LOL. FOR EXAMPLE I HEARD SOMETHING WHERE SOMEBODY WAS TALKING ABOUT NE NE OFF THE ATL HOUSE WIFE’S DOGGING HER OUT CAUSE SHE USE TO DANCE AND I’M LIKE SO WHAT !!!!
THEN ON THE GUYS SIDE, NIGGAS GO AND SPEND ALL THERE MONEY IN THE CLUB BUT THEN TURN AROUND AND SAY THEY WOULD NEVER MAKE A STRIPPER THEY GIRL OR WIFE HUMM
SEEING HOW I HAVE MORE FEMALE LIFERS THE FIRST QUESTION IS FOR YALL? WHY ARE STRIPPERS LOOKED AT AS BAD PEOPLE, EVEN THE ONES THAT DON’T DO IT NO MORE?THE NEXT 3 QUESTIONS ARE FOR MY FELLAS? WOULD YOU DATE A EX STRIPPER? IF NOT WHY ? IF YOU MET 1 IN THE CLUB THAT YOU LIKED WOULD YOU DATE HER AND TAKE HER OUT THE CLUB?"

i found the comments on this topic interesting..only because, surprisingly most of the comments supported a woman's choice to be in strip and make money with her body. which is very contrary to the judgement we (strippers) get when we step outside unashamed about our "job". after all its the constant judgement, name calling and speculation that even generated these questions, right? i receive a lot of judgement, EXCLUSIVELY from people who do not even know me, but know that i work in a strip club. so i found it kind of strange that there werent more people opposing the strip industry on JD's blog..although i guess some people dont really have a viable argument as to why they should even give a fuck about what another woman, whom they do not even know, does with her life. hmm..just a thought.
one of my favorite comments left on the blog:

I personally dont think strippers are bad people, BUT the stereotypes put on strippers over the years is what people fall victim to. The stereotype being that strippers are prostitutes, drug addicts and just plain messed up and dirty. The business of sex and pleasure makes some feel uncomfortable and that makes them just jump into judging and labeling the strippers unfairly. It is just the naive people who are not open minded and too quick to judge. As Janet would say….”It’s just sex”!
good point.

19 people had something to say.:
EXCELLENT I loved this post. I dont know what the BIG deal about strippers is. ALL strippers ARE NOT the same. I have to agree w JD the girls that arent strippers are doing the same exact or similar dances that a stripper would do. That is exactly why ppl should not judge others. & I also have to agree w the comment that was left on the blog "the stereotypes put on strippers over the years is what people fall victim to." ppl always go by what they hear, & half the damn time dont even know what their talking about.
I am in agreement with JD's posting & MISS BEE. Alot of girls who arent in the industry are imitating the dances that strippers would do, only thing there is no money involved. I also agree that it pays more than a 9 to 5 job, I have friends who do strip & they make more money than I do & I have 2 degrees...smh. As matter of fact I have 1 friend after graduating from college she couldn't find a job so she decided to dance & loves it. It is society that tells us that stripping is bad & dirty. It is a job just like any other except you are naked. I feel ppl need to grow up, get off their high horse & free their minds.
honestly I think you should get over it...no matter how many blogs you do based on stripping, some people will never respect strippers...and why should we??? basically breaking your back for some cash...why should i respect somebody that will take all their clothes off and MORE for a buck? just like i don't respect drug dealers, crackheads, prostitutes, porn stars, hell and some politicans...ITS A DIRTY ASS GAME...the end.
anonymous,
you sound mad :o(
but kudos to you for reading someones blog, whom you dont respect, but you do not know..and im assuming your a reader, since you know of the several blogs iv done on strip. if you like it, i l-ve it. :o]
Well, I feel stripping or "exotic entertainment" is just a job. Maybe an unusual job, but one nonetheless. The only difference between a stripper and a chick at the regular club is that strippers get paid to dance. Outside of the club, strippers are regular people like everybody else. One of my best friends is a dancer so I don't judge. Unlike anonymous, I say hate the game, not the players. Ya dig.
S.O. to anonymous who seems to be a regular and a hater. As I always say u cant knock someone's hustle. I appreciate JD for that blog because people need to realize that money comes full circle no matter what u do- why does it matter -as long as your life gets lived bills get paid n food is on your table period. For such a sexual 'country' we seem to be so uptight about the sex entertainment industries being 'wrong' build a bridge get over it is wat i say to the naysayers n contradictors of the game. Brooky do ya thing!
I want to be a stripper!!!
not mad babe JUST EXPECT THAT IN LIFE NOT EVERYBODY IS GOING TO AGREE WITH WHAT YOU DO...In my opinion, IT IS DEGRADING but then again I am not one of those females in the club throwing it back...thats just my opinion. I was directed to your blog via Necole Bitchie, and I check out your blog regularly but does that mean I'm a hater because I don't agree with your lifestyle? Bullshit. Cry me a river and get over it Brooke. No matter how many blogs you write about stripping, not EVERYBODY IS GOING TO SUPPORT YOUR DECISION TO TAKE OFF YOUR CLOTHES FOR A BUCK. Its morally disgusting!
anonymous,
LOL. who said you were a hater? guilty much? i simply said that you sound mad, ranting about morals and disgust, at the same time, you keep checking back to the morally disgusting stripper's blog. if necole bitchie told you to jump off a bridge, would you? stand by your opinion and stay off my blog if it bothers you so much. you complain about the industry i work in, but you want to read about it? im not upset about my decision to strip. as a matter of fact i support my own decision and will blog on it to death, as long as i know it is bothering people like you, who cant get enough of me. if you take the time to read the entirety of my blogs, you will see that im showing you different sides of the industry. i can careless if you agree..it seems you care more than i do. but i appreciate your foot traffic to my blog, "anonymous", run tell a friend. OH, and by the way, there is no "E" in my name.
have a good night!
anonymous,
at this point, your writing for your health. of course i will not post anymore of your combative comments. if you want to hate/dislike/be disgusted with strippers, perhaps you should construct a blog of your own, dedicated to what it is that you would like to talk about. your shine is over on my blog. if you are absolutely pressed to speak with me, my email is absolutebrook@magiccity.com. in case you havent noticed, the remainder of your comments have been rejected. carry on. :o]
It's a job, it's legal, and it's for adults. Rest assured though Brook if you were a lawyer, doctor, or ran an orphanage for blind retard kids, people will STILL judge you. These people usually have vaginas. I see women in strip clubs all the time looking at strippers crazy or getting offended when they are asked to tip or get a dance. I can't understand the rational behind that, I haven't met one dude that went to a male review or male strip club for the sole basis of casting aspersion or just taking up space at the bar.
Sorry Ms. Brook Lynne I didn't get a chance to read all O JD's post, but just based on what I've read here's what I think..... We as women will always judge each other for some reason(it is what it is). I think strippers get a bad wrap and are an easy targets cause some women are Jealous(btw i'm not a stripper). Allot of strippers in the more reputable strip clubs are pretty, they have nice bodies, money and the attention of the men. For an average woman that's more than enough to induce a severe bout of Jealousy:-) So I think this debate will never die....... but it's very interesting.
at least they have a job and arent working the street. The world is full of judgements you just have to do what works for you. great post! Please check out my fashion and lifetsyle blog www.andeelayne.blogspot.com. Follow mine as I will yours xo
Ahhh, stripping and the people's opinions...always an interesting subject. Personally, I wouldn't do it unless I had no other means of providing for myself and my child. It would definitely be a last resort because I am not comfortable with the stigma's attached to it. For those who have made it their profession and keep their focus, hey, do you.
People are going to judge any kind of lifestyle and/or profession that is morally askew from the norm but if it is what you decide to do with your life, it is something you MUST be confident in and have the ability to ignore morons who want to engage you in a debate on what you do every 5 seconds.
I don't get the impression that you are at all affected by other people's intrusive opinions about what you do Brook but them damn Anonymous commenter's you get...they get on my last damn nerve. It is almost like they have nothing better to do than come into YOUR blog to tell you about yourself...as if you don't know who you are or what you do for a living. Sorry, I just REALLY hate a person who can't stand by their opinions unashamedly (read: Anonymous Commenter's).
People are judgemental because they can be. Me personally if I had the nerve to be a stripper maybe I would do it as a side job. I don't see anything wrong with it. There are a few strippers that are nasty and and get paid to have sex in the champagne room but that does not mean all strippers do it. Most people that judge strippers are just jealous cause they can't do it.
I read the comments on JD's blog and I can't help but think some people were not really being honest. Everyone on that blog seemed so diplomatic and positive about the strip industry. All of a sudden everyone's gung-ho for supporting dancers and dating them?? I'm just not believing it. I'm not a stripper so I can not attest to the negativity and hate that you may face. However, I am a woman and needless to say the hate that woman show towards each other in general is abundant, so I can only imagine how bad it must be if you're a woman selling a sexual image.
Personally, I don't feel any type of way about it. I think the female body is beautiful and I wish more women had the confidence to exude sexuality and/or assertiveness without hesitation. The fact that you're getting paid to do so, only seems like an added bonus or perk.
Personally, I have a lot of respect for women who have the guts to be strippers. I don't think it's the type of career that anyone should want to do for the long term, but if you have what it takes to make enough to save for the future, I say rock on!
I've personally known women who stripped to pay their way through school and if they didn't they would be in as much debt as I am with student loans. What I don't agree with in that industry are the women who cross the line of entertaining to becoming like escorts. There are way too many risks involved.
The people who are quick to pass judgment are the ones who wish that they had what it takes to do the same thing. They probably hate their jobs and think it's unfair that some people can make more money in one night than they do in one week.
I don't care what anybody does with their life or career choices, because I can only control me. I just question the judgment of ANYONE whether rapper, stripper, politician, lawyer, financial advisor, etc. who puts money above moral. Moral is what you make it. If you feel you would Never strip but times are hard and strippers make good/easy/fast money and you use that as your motive to strip I question your character. Besides our help comes from the Lord and if we decided to take things upon our own hands no longevity or prosperity will come from it. Just my thoughts. Thanks
P.S. not condemning strippers, I could not do it, like the previous poster stated, there are too many risks involved. Being an attractive woman alone make men do crazy things to get something from you. If you are an attractive stripper, Oh lawd 98.9% of men expect some kind of sexual act from you. I COULD NOT DO IT! But if you can more power to you.
at the heart of the issue is what viable feeling of self-worth remains on the floor amongst the filthy bills scattered before you. that is truth. As a woman, it is easy to understand both sides of the issue and the conflict between morality and sexuality. There can be a reality whereby both exist.it is truly the pessimist who succumbs to the sex-paved path laid out as woman's birthright. The modern ideology of sex and its industries are MAN's constructs. The scenes in clubs are played out all too willingly by these women he mentions. But please bear in mind that not ALL women even venture to clubs. WHy??? Choice and defiance. SOme of us chose to say "no" to voluntary degradation. But for those who ultimately say "Yes" such as yourself, all that matters is what's in your heart at the end of the shift, not your hands.
