are we STILL doing this??

PLAY THIS!

i just watched this STUPID ASS SHIT on my homegirl's blog MISSJIA, and got immediately annoyed and disgusted. light skin or dark skin, EVERY individual on this video sounds like an ignorant MESS. as a light skin woman clearly i understand that there are still some people who continue to perpetuate that lighter is better, more appealing, more attractive etc etc, and it does NOT help when you have dopey little girls, like on this video, shouting that dark skin girls need more lotion and their "nigga" wants them. ARE WE ABSOLUTELY SERIOUS with this BUFFOONERY!!? how in the world do we let these people dictate shades of color to us?? i lay in the tanning bed 3x a week to achieve a darker skin color because i dislike "yellow", and i prefer to date men who are tall, DARK and handsome. so does that mean im a part of this argument of dark vs light, just because of my PREFERENCES? and im sure there are particulars out there who think i should have nothing to say because i can not accurately speak on the perils of brown/dark skin women..and to you i say, i am JUST as offended as you, because even tho i dont share the thoughts of these light skin women on film, its clear that it is made to LOOK as if i do. damn shame. with all these birdbrained folks on this video saying all the wrong shit, im really wondering who even cares what THEY think ? this shit has got to stop. really. the more we feed into this pointless competitiveness between shades of skin, the more relevant it becomes. i know i can not speak for all skin tones, but i can just speak for myself when i say, im soooo over this issue, and really, its videos like this and their comments that keep racism within our OWN culture alive.

oh and P.S. i wish the mother of that little light skin girl in the parking lot would come get her witless child out the camera. i am so tuned off at the fact that she is supposed to be representing "me", and how light skin women really feel. this is our educated youth? oh and you thought strippers were a problem. hmph.

They were beyond out of line...it's crazy how many of them were so brainwashed that they thought that their own sexual prowess was somehow attached to the color of their skin. If you're a bad one, you're just bad...period. It's also a bit of a self esteem thing too b/c those of us who are secure within ourselves don't feel the need to down others to make us feel better.

Its sad but whats even more sad is the fact that none of it is going anywhere :O(

yours truly August 6, 2009 5:27 AM

ugh, EVERY person in that vid is in a fuckin mess. put them on their own obscure island to cancel each other out and leave the rest of the world to date people rather than complexion.

this topic is old and it's been old. so tired of the foolishness.

Assertive Wit August 6, 2009 6:33 AM

I just hate stupid people and THESE are stupid people. They were the WORST representation of ANYONE Black I've EVER seen in my life and all of them need to be forced to coexist with one another in a cave somewhere for 365 days.

Gigi August 6, 2009 7:56 AM

WOW! Are we still living in the dark ages?

Every n that vid needs an education on slavery, and the Willie Lynch letter.

As far dating preferences, mine are simple. My racial preferences are open, but he has to have a personality, and be a sweetheart.

FreeSpirit August 6, 2009 10:46 AM

it sucks that WE as a race cant get over skin color & BEGIN to uplift each other as an oppressed people. it sucks but what can you do? as a dark skinned woman, i get told ALL THE TIME: "you are attractive for a dark skinned girl" eh. as if. SO NOT A COMPLIMENT. once again a case of the black on black hate we deal with. smh

Tay August 6, 2009 10:56 AM

yes! you said it perfectly. black people are in a mental stranglehold. i pray that one day we shall really be free. because when we perpetuate sterotypes and say ignorant shit like this we might as well be in slavery. we where brainwashed so tough white people don't even have to call us names & make us feel inferior themselves. black people do it for them. tsk tsk.

xox tatum

Prissy Hood Chick August 6, 2009 11:56 AM

OMG!! I seen dis shit da other day also, and I was shocked on the comments left beneath it.... I'm thinking ppl would be like this video was stupid and so on, but baby girl these ppl from all over were commenting saying, "yea dark skin better", "Fu*k dark skin, light skin better", and the whole time I'm just fuming mad at niggas. Not black ppl, bt niggas. I swear we as the black race just keep our selves from bettering ourselves. We having civil wars n shit....I'm thru. This is ignorance at it's bliss

cae alyssa.ann August 6, 2009 12:16 PM

lmao that video was ridonkulous!
i love being dark..
it used to bother me but if a guy wants to judge me on my skin tone then his ignorance is what i won't waste my time on. Good post!

Dipped August 6, 2009 12:19 PM

That's is so fucking lame everybody needs to get over themselves. When we start tearing eachothers down we're doing "their"<===="the white man/the master/the government" jobs for them. Its 2009 and all shades can co-exist if we stop being eachothers #1enemy and obstacle in life.

Kelly August 6, 2009 12:41 PM

WOOOOOW.. the whole video annoyed me from start to finish. To think that people still think like this and are still so ignorantly expressing it is amazing. When I was in college i hung wit a group of chicks who always coined the phrase "If it aint light.. it aint right", knowing them personally I NEVER took offense to it. i knew it was a joke.. we'd always laugh at how our crew represented every color of the spectrum and we were proud of that. Despite the running joke amongst us. So to sit here and listen to the "light skin" fool in the parking lot say "dark skin" girls are just mad cause "their nigga wants her (light skin). Then to follow it up with the "dark skin" chick saying "if you take a light skin girl and make her dark then what does she have"? You've got to be kidding me.. these are the type of things we are worried about within our race? It's 2009 ladies if you still hold these racist views amongst your own ethnicity... YOU NEED TO GROW UP.... Be happy in your own skin, but do not knock the next person because they look different then you. Countries have gone to war for such... and now some sit and jokingly insult their own... Find a cause and a life...

As always Brook .. well written.

N'jaila , Ms. Rhee if you're NASTY August 6, 2009 12:53 PM

I feel your pain, I also get it when I hear other mixed girls talk it makes me embarrassed. Girls will call themselves attractive becuase they are mixed and light. You can be light and ugly as sin, and I've seen many an ugly ass mixed chick.

They need to wise up that the so called light advantage doesn't really amount to much.

Dante' August 6, 2009 1:56 PM

It is extremely disheartening to know that a letter/theory written by a slave owner in 1712 still plagues our race in 2009. Why can't we see that we continually perpetuate our own stereotypes! This shit is embeded in us and until we educate our children and our community it will continue. It's a damn shame.

latarians au pair August 6, 2009 2:27 PM

geez. i get this all the time. i 2 lay in a tanning bed 4 xs a week and at the pool on weekends. bronze skin is the shit. anywho, i dnt date no other race other than slave black men. and yes, i discriminate against all others. if u dnt like it u can kiss my hi yellar ass!! not saying that i will never try "something new" its just not for me right now. every1 has their own preference and its tehir business. i have nothing against other men or women for that matter. who i chose to date is mine. as for females, i find it so stupid that women still do this bright vs black shit. im from the deep south were we come in many colors...get with the program.

Akilah Walker August 6, 2009 2:33 PM

I could not agree with you more, Brook...this shit is ignorant and it has GOT to stop!!!

A eaglebird's terd August 6, 2009 3:02 PM

Naw,the skintone thing aint what we still stuck on its the people they the "media" choose to throw in front of the camera, them looked like all college kids still trying to find there place in this crazy world, and the older gentleman looklike a professor who seem like he cant take a joke and always getting joned or ranked on,talking'bout people comparing him to wesley snipes and other dark men;well nicca you black as shit get over it you a grown ass man crying because somebody called you a tar baby,I been a short blackman for years and I dont go around crying 'cause I cant reach the topshelves at the grocerystore or got to get on my tip-toes to look at the eye examiner thing at the dmv, talkin'bout skin tones a problem nicca i show you problems.

Anonymous August 6, 2009 4:19 PM

that has to be some type of spoof video right? do people still actually think that way? all light-skin people look the same? i think they picked the most ingorant black people to make this documentary!

Ray Ray August 6, 2009 11:32 PM

i dont comment much but i do read and this topic struck a nerve b\c i was just talking to someone about this the other day..the person took the video down however, i totally agree that it was foolishness to even put it up in the first place..we have to do better man, it's just that simple..there's really nothin left for me to say on the topic in all efforts to avoid redundancy..it is very irritating nonetheless..

The Missus August 7, 2009 9:50 AM

It's crazy because so many people believe that light skin is better. I was subjected to this when I was younger I am brown skinned but I got a pass because my hair was long. I had an argument with a guy ine time who said all light skinned babies are cute but dark skinned babies are not. I'm like please not all light skinned people are cute because I have seen some ugly ones. I have also seen some dark skinned chicks that would put all of us to shame. I am still trying to figure out with all the stereotypes already put on us. we still put ourselves in the box.

Coach Barbie August 7, 2009 7:50 PM

U took the thoughts outa my head! I wonder if this is a joke, it must be...not that it makes it ok but they cant be serious.

Kelz August 7, 2009 10:25 PM

In 2009, I'm SOO TIRED OF THIS BULL. I'm sick of being acting like its a competition, or downing other people simply for having preferences.
It stems from IGNORANCE and if they'd pick up a history book, they'd know that white people segregated us during slavery so we'd never unite and rise against them and centuries later IT'S STILL AFFECTING US.
One of the saddest things I've ever seen; because light, brown, or dark, no offense, but the KKK would hang us all, in no particular order. :-/ I know that's crude to say, but the point is we're all black.

Tay MF Dee August 7, 2009 11:14 PM

its just a mess and quite frankly i am tired of it. this has been going on for way too long. black people always talk about the racism that we face but they never speak on the racism within our own race. its like the field slave, house slave mentality. its foolishness. i am a dark skin female and within my family there are so many shades and variations of black its crazy but at the end of the day we are all family and we are all black. i have an aunt that looks like she can be asian, cousins that look spanish, some whom are very light but you can tell are black, and then those who are like me dark skin.. there have been so many times that we have been out and i can remember one time we were in the mall and one lady asked us a question and we told her we were cousins and my aunt was our aunt she said we were lying and passed another very inappropriate comment. i was shocked but it wasnt new to me

Mimi August 9, 2009 8:33 PM

loved everything about this.

Jamie August 10, 2009 1:47 AM

I love my light skin but I don't think I'm better than anyone because of it. I like dark-skinned men and I, too, believe that if you're pretty, you're pretty. Naomi Campbell is dark and beautiful. Tyra Banks is light and beautiful. No difference! Oh and Brook, you're on toyas-world.net blog for people that "shaved" at their hair or whatever. How neat. I thought to myself, "Hey, that's Brook. lol She's such a celebrity."

Jamie August 10, 2009 2:01 AM

My bad, girl, I mistook you for Lala.
